About 87 hospitals are being built as part of the government's Agenda 111 project, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

He claims that the bulk of the sites have contractors working on around 87 of the anticipated 111, which are all in various levels of completion.

He stated that "we are well on path to narrow the health inequity gap and enhance the health system nationally" when delivering the Mid-Year Budget Review on Monday. I'm happy to inform that on 87 of the 111 sites designated for the Agenda 111 project, building has started and is in varying degrees of completion.

His remarks came only a month after Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu urged the administration to disclose the state of the hospitals following the Minister of Health's resignation. On Thursday, June 23, he stated during an interview with the Super Morning Show that in order to appease the interest of many Ghanaians, the government would need to account for the different expenditures related to the projects.

"So, in addition to the headline, please provide the locations of the hospitals and the amount of time and money invested at the start of the procedure. How much money has been invested in that project so far? We are interested in the implementation status," he stated.

The Finance Minister stated that by the end of 2022, several health infrastructures are anticipated to be finished.

One district hospital and five polyclinics—Akontombra, Nsuaem, Elubo, Wassa Dunkwa, Bogoso, and Mpohor—will be built in the Western Region. According to Mr. Ofori Atta, the following projects are anticipated to be finished by the end of the year: "extension and equipping of four chosen facilities project at Aburi (Kom), Tetteh Quashie, Kibi, and Atibie; and equipping of Upper East (Bolgatanga) Regional Hospital, Phase II."

Schedule 111

The Agenda 111 initiative was introduced on August 17, 2021, by President Akufo-Addo.

The project will include 101 district hospitals, 6 regional hospitals in newly created regions, 1 regional hospital in the Western Region, 2 psychiatric hospitals in Kumasi and Tamale, and a renovated Accra psychiatric hospital. It will also include the design, procurement, construction, equipping, and commissioning of these facilities.

The goal of the initiative is to increase access to healthcare for Ghanaians across the country and guarantee that they receive high-quality services. The hospitals that will be built will feature accommodations for doctors, nurses, and other medical staff.

The facilities that Ghanaians would use include four cutting-edge operating rooms for maternity, obstetrics, and gynaecology, as well as a full complement of male, female, paediatric, and isolation wards, among other things, according to the Agenda 111 comprehensive paper.

The government claims that when the project is finished, it would represent "the greatest investment in healthcare infrastructure in the nation since independence."
