President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, appealed to men to take advantage of breast cancer control education in Ghana.

She said men's words are highly respected by women, so they will be better able to advise and encourage women in controlling the disease after gaining knowledge about the disease.

She added that this demystifies the misconception among women that breast cancer is caused by witchcraft and they seek early treatment if the disease is diagnosed to avoid unnecessary deaths.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who is also the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals in Kumasi and Accra, delivered the appeal to the Assemblies of God Church of Ghana (A/G) National Men's Ministry Convention at Pakyi in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, in Friday, July 22, 2022.

The annual Men's Ministry Convention was held July 21-24 with the theme, "O Lord, Revive Thy Work."

Dr. Wiafe Addai speaking to the participants under the theme “Role of men in the fight against breast cancer” noted that if men take advantage of breast cancer education, they will be well informed to make good decisions at home when dealing with breast cancer. .

“Some men do not advise their wives to undergo breast cancer treatment, either surgery or chemotherapy, for fear of the side effects of losing hair or breasts. So when they have knowledge about the disease, they will be able to advise them and encourage them to get treatment.

"If they understand and engage in breast cancer control education, it will reduce the number of women who die prematurely and unnecessarily by resorting to traditional medicine and prayer camps," said the consultant surgeon.

Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chairperson of the Ghana Alliance for Non-Communicable Diseases, has advised men to go for regular medical check-ups for hypertension, diabetes and prostate cancer to inform them on how to live their lives healthily.

The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God (A/G) Church of Ghana, Prof. Paul Frimpong-Manso, on behalf of the church, praised the work of Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai in the campaign against breast cancer in Africa.

Professor Reverend Paul Frimpong-Manso also encourages men to take bold steps and advise women to strictly seek medical help for breast cancer treatment to avoid treatment in prayer camps.
