The German midfielder, who was initially passed over for the title game against Aston Villa, scored two goals in injury time to help his team win.

Before his heroics helped Manchester City win the title, Ilkay Gundogan freely confesses that he was upset about being benched for the team's final match against Aston Villa.

The German midfielder was benched by Pep Guardiola for the final game of the campaign since a win would have guaranteed Man City a one-point championship victory over Liverpool.

With 14 minutes remaining and a 2-0 deficit, it appeared as though they could miss the chance to win a fourth championship in five years until Gundogan scored twice and Rodri added another to secure an incredible comeback.

At the premiere of the documentary "Together: Champions Again!" Gundogan said, "We are all competitive, we all want to play, and I remember the week before I hadn't started the West Ham game so I was quite confident in starting. Then the moment I found out I wasn't starting I was a bit frustrated and angry.

"I still made an effort to maintain my composure and support the starters, but I guess my displeasure showed a little bit during the game.

Things didn't go well when I was substituted because we gave up the second goal 10 seconds later. However, as a professional football player, you always try to do your best and follow the simple instructions.

"We scored the opening goal, which fortunately happened, and then we scored three goals in ten minutes. Because everything happened so rapidly, it's still hard for me to analyze what happened.

Can Man City win the league three times in a row?

Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, and Julian Alvarez, three recent additions to the squad, will help City start their title defense against West Ham on August 7.

Senior players Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko have already left the team, and John Stones, a defender, thinks they will be missed.

"I always have faith that we can succeed. The newcomers have all been outstanding right away, according to the England international.

We have made so many good friends and have so many wonderful memories on the field that it is sad to see people leave, whether they are retiring or seeking a new challenge. However, we won't forget those.

"You kind of don't want that to end, you want those memories, but that's football; there are always new people coming in and it's a testimony to the backroom staff and individuals involved in recruiting that the character fit of players who have come in perform so well in the team," said the player.
