Report: Tottenham now in direct negotiations to sell ‘magnificent’ player

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Villarreal over selling Giovani Lo Celso in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on Twitter that Villarreal “are in direct negotiations with Tottenham” for Argentina international midfielder Lo Celso. Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery is now in charge of Villarreal, and he has Lo Celso at the top of his list, according to Romano. The Italian journalist has added that Tottenham are willing to sell the 26-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder – described as “a magnificent player” by Sevilla president Jose Castro on ABC de Sevilla in June 2022 – but only on their own terms. The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal. Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte clearly does not rate the Argentine, which is why he sent him out on loan in the first place. Spurs did well without Lo Celso last season and finished in the Premier League top four, and we do not think that he would be able to get into the team at Tottenham next season.
