The management of Sunyani Technical University (STU) met managers of FM radio stations in Sunyani as well as some senior journalists at a breakfast meeting organized at the university's main campus.
The proceedings, which were conducted by the vice-rector Ing. Prof. Among other things, Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah discussed deepening the existing cordial relationship between them and how the media could best support the university to create more awareness of its ongoing 55th anniversary celebrations as well as the STU Endowment Fund.
The Vice-Chancellor explained that under the University's new master plan, new structures need to be built to match its position as a leading technical university in Africa.
He further explained that this would also enable the university to carry out its mandate to train people in skill acquisition to contribute to the socio-economic progress of the country.
He commended the media for their continued support of the STU course over the years and called for closer working collaboration between the two.
“…so once you join this course, we believe the university will achieve its goal and purpose to celebrate its 55th anniversary and establish an endowment fund that will help us provide resources to implement the new master plan that has been earmarked for the university,” he said.
Anniversary
The Chair of the STU @ 55 Planning Committee, Professor Jones Lewis Arthur, shed more light on the anniversary and took the media through some of the key activities lined up to mark the occasion.
Among them, he said, are a fundraising dinner, an alumni homecoming and a grand durbar to culminate the celebrations in November this year.
The Registrar, Mr. Samuel Ankama Obour, thanked the media partners present for their commitment and continued support over the years.
“One important thing that we want the whole world to know is that we have established an endowment fund. As you know, the government alone cannot bear the full cost of all our expenses to realize our goals, so we would appreciate corporate organizations and individuals supporting us in this regard."
The various media partners present pledged to contribute their quota to the realization of the university's goals.
FM radio stations have pledged to provide free airtime to STU to air their programs whenever needed, while other journalists have also pledged to use their various platforms to support the university.
