8 Players That Reportedly Rejected Chelsea This Summer Transfer Window
Chelsea's summer transfer window has been difficult, as they have failed to sign most of their main targets. Chelsea has been associated with various players, but just a few have consented to join the club, while some have chosen to join another. Here are the eight players that turned down the opportunity to join Chelsea and instead signed with another club this summer:
1. Robert Lewandowski: During the summer transfer market, Robert Lewandowski was one of the hottest transfer targets. When Chelsea, like other clubs, approached Lewandowski, the player informed them that he only wanted to join Barcelona.
2. Raphinha: Raphinha was one of Chelsea's biggest transfer embarrassments in the last 20 years. Chelsea gets whatever they want under Roman Abramovich, but that wasn't the case with Raphinha.
Chelsea signed a deal with Leeds United to sign Raphinha, but the player turned down the offer and instead to join Barcelona.
3. Ousmane Dembele: One of Chelsea's top targets this summer, the Blues worked tirelessly to bring the winger to Stamford Bridge. Dembele was expected to join Chelsea as a free agent at one point, but in the end, the Frenchman turned down Chelsea and renewed his contract with Barcelona.
4. Jules Kounde: Jules Kounde has been on Chelsea's radar since last season, but the Blues were unable to complete the transfer in time, and he was eventually sold to Barcelona. Jules Kounde, like Raphinha, shunned Chelsea in favor of signing with Xavi's Barcelona, who reportedly called him all day to get him to Spotify Camp Nou.
5. Presnel Kimpembe: Thomas Tuchel knows Presnel Kimpembe well and wanted the Frenchman to join him at Chelsea.
When you thought Kimpembe would leap at the chance to reunite with Thomas Tuchel, he spurned the offer and chose to stay at PSG.
6. Gabriel Jesus: According to reports, Chelsea attempted but failed to hijack Gabriel Jesus' transfer to Arsenal. Gabriel Jesus chose to join Chelsea's rival Arsenal over the Blues.
7. Richarlison:
Similar to the Gabriel Jesus deal, Chelsea attempted to hijack Richarlison's move to Tottenham Hotspur, but the Brazilian preferred Spurs to Chelsea.
8. De Ligt: De Ligt was one of Chelsea's top targets during the summer transfer window, but the Dutch defender prefers to join German powerhouse Bayern Munich instead.
