Liverpool face stiff competition from AC Milan in the race to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.
The Italian champions have been made odds-on favourites at 4/6 with Betfair, ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s side at 4/1.
The winger has just a year left on his contract in the Spanish capital and found a consistent run of minutes hard to come by last season.
The winger didn’t start any games from the quarter-finals onwards on their run to lifting the Champions League last season, playing just 47 minutes.
The Spaniard won his third Champions League title and third league title last season, having signed for the club back in 2015 as a 19-year-old from Mallorca for £3.5million.
The now 26-year-old spent his first season at the club on loan with Espanyol before spending the last six seasons at the Bernabeu, racking up 235 appearances for Los Blancos.
Liverpool have been linked with the winger for a few windows now, and following this summer’s departures of Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi, there could now be space in the squad for the Spanish international.
AC Milan do still lead the race for the winger though, with the Italian side keen to build on their title winning campaign last season by challenging in Europe this time out.
