Modern medical equipment will be donated to the Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani by the governments of Egypt and Hungary.

The hospital continues to be the largest referral facility in the Ahafo, Bono, and Bono-East Regions. Tamás Endre Fehér, the Hungarian ambassador to Ghana, said this after visiting the hospital on a working visit to see where the hospital would need support.

In an interview with Mark Abisah on Suncity Radio in Sunyani, Ambassador Fehér revealed that the prime ministers of Hungary and Egypt, two nations with extensive economic ties, resolved in 2021 to provide certain medical supplies to one African nation. The Bono Regional Hospital in Sunyani was chosen as the beneficiary after additional consideration and negotiations with Ghana's Minister of Health, according to the ambassador, who started his formal duties in Ghana in September 2021.

The Egyptian side is sending medical expertise, including physicians and nurses, while the Hungarian side is giving cutting-edge medical equipment developed in Hungary, the ambassador said.

I came to Sunyani today to assess the situation, to determine where the regional hospital needs help, and to encourage the medical director to produce a list of the supplies that the Hungarians can donate for the hospital, he said.

Ambassador Fehér noted the hospital's excellent condition. He did, however, mention that some of the machinery is ancient but still useful.

He said that the hospital needed new equipment since it wanted to expand its capacity and expressed the expectation that they would deliver the equipment as soon as they received the list of things required.

Dr. Cardinal Newton, the Regional Hospital in Sunyani's medical director, showed the ambassador and his team around the hospital's various departments and disclosed that the facility lacked an MRI machine and was forced to refer patients who needed this type of care to either Techiman or Kumasi's Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

He claimed that the predicament has put a significant financial load on the sufferers. He said that in order to expedite the service, he and the management will supply the list of things as needed.

When the Ghana Health Service Council members recently made the hospital a working visit, the management and personnel there recently stated that the absence of contemporary and suitable machinery at the institution is hampering the delivery of proper and effective healthcare services to the population.

Additionally, Hungary and Egypt's donation of medical equipment will greatly aid the hospital in delivering the required level of treatment.
