The majority in the House of Representatives has voiced its displeasure with Speaker Alban Bagbin for delaying his decision about Sarah Adwoa Safo's future as an MP.

The Caucus maintains that the Speaker was required by law to relinquish the chair. Iddrisu Habib, the deputy majority chief whip, claims this. He asserted that the Speaker's decision to postpone the decision may only be done so for educational purposes.

He emphasised that no precedent can override the House Committee on Privileges' earlier, decisive finding on the subject. "Perhaps the Speaker's decision to postpone rendering a decision is so that we can learn. I believe that the Dome Kwabenya seat should be declared vacant right away based on the committee's recommendations and findings as well as the supremacy of the constitution, he told Citi FM in Accra.

On July 28, Speaker of the House Alban Bagbin postponed making a judgement about Sarah Adwoa Safo's future as a Dome-Kwabenya MP. After listening to arguments from both sides of the House on Thursday, Alban Bagbin said that he will give the House a written decision with reasons at the next meeting.

"I spoke with the elderly woman, and she gave me some advise, which I believe is sound. I require time to present a well-reasoned written decision to this House.

"Under the circumstances, I will implore this House that we adjourn for the day since I am unable to offer you a decision in time for today. I'll provide a written decision when I get back, he told the House.

The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been fired by President Akufo-Addo in the interim. This was stated in a press release sent out by the administration on Thursday, July 28 and signed by Eugene Arhin, director of communications. The statement claims that President Akufo-Addo did this in accordance with Article 81(a) of the 1992 Constitution.
