PROFESSOR George A. Agbango VISITED BAWKU SHS AND WROTE THIS
This morning, July 29, 2022, I had the unique privilege to address the students, staff and faculty of the Bawku Senior High School in Bawku (Upper East Region of Ghana), my Alma Marta. The School was opened in September 1963 and I was one of the pioneers of the school with the late Dr. Yaw Duah Agyeman-Dickson as the founding Headmaster. At the time we were barely 70 students in the school. Today, the school has about three thousand students.
I motivated the students to commit themselves to harder work and to excel in their studies. I challenged them to do better for Ghana far better than our generation could do.
This is part of my speech:
“The good future of Ghana and Africa belongs to your generation. Seated here amongst you are the future leaders, doctors, nurses, lawyers, architects and teachers of Ghana. Today, people of my generation own cars but your generation would own planes.
“When I was a student here decades ago, I hardly dreamt of being a Member of Parliament nor a professor. But here I am today, a senior Professor at the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania in Bloomsburg, USA. You can do better.
“I wish you the students every success. The opportunities I have in America have enabled me to assist you personally today just as I have done in the past. I have ten laptop computers for the school to help enhance your computer collection for the use of the students.
“I thank the Board of Governance of the school for naming a street in my honor. May God bless you all.”
I got a thunderous applause from the students followed by a beautiful vote of thanks by the Senior School Prefect and remarks of appreciation by the Headmaster, Rev. Sylvester Agalga. See attached some pictures of the today’s event.
