Juventus ‘set to target Man Utd striker Anthony Martial if they fail in Alvaro Morata transfer bid’
JUVENTUS could go after Anthony Martial if they cannot get a permanent deal done for Atletico Madrid's Alvaro Morata. The Old Lady would prefer to make Spain forward Morata a full-time recruit after his two solid seasons on loan in Turin. 2 Anthony Martial has been in goal-scoring form for Manchester United in pre-seasonCredit: Getty 2 Atletico Madrid's Alvaro Morata is said to favour a return to JuventusCredit: Getty But the Italians regard Manchester United ace Martial as an ideal alternative if the Spaniards continue to play hardball, according to Corriere Della Sera. They say Everton striker Moise Kean's loan at Juve is likely to end so they will need cover for main man Dusan Vlahovic. Morata is the prime target as his ability to also play out wide is liked by Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri. The 29-year-old reportedly wants to go back to the Serie A giants but the deal with Atleti is said to be "complicated" due to the LaLiga club's valuation. That backdrop has paved the way for Juve to switch focus to versatile United forward Martial, who was loaned to Sevilla in January. However, they could struggle to convince Man Utd to sell. New boss Erik ten Hag has been impressed with the Frenchman and has told chiefs to block any potential sale. The 26-year-old has been in inspired form on the Red Devils' pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. He scored in all three of the Red Devils’ friendly wins over Liverpool, Melbourne Victory and Crystal Palace. He has been playing as the main striker this summer rather than his more familiar wide role but his United future could be complicated by whether Cristiano Rolando stays or goes.
Juventus identify Manchester United and Chelsea stars as alternatives to top transfer target Alvaro Morata
Max Allegri wants to bolster his Juventus squad this summer (Picture: Getty) Juventus have made Alvaro Morata their priority signing this summer but will target players from Manchester United and Chelsea if a deal for the Spanish striker fails to materialise. Morata has spent the last two seasons in Turin, scoring 32 goals in 92 appearances during the loan stint, but returned to his parent club Atletico Madrid at the end of last season. Juve passed up on their £29.7m option to sign him permanently but only because they believed they could negotiate a lower fee for the 29-year-old. Having not featured for Atletico since 2020, Morata is deemed surplus to requirements by manager Diego Simeone. Atletico Madrid still want to attract a significant offer for Morata, however, meaning Juventus may need to look elsewhere as they bid to bolster Allegri’s attacking options. According to Sky Italia, Juventus are beginning to consider alternatives to Morata and have expressed interest in signing Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Chelsea’s Timo Werner. Martial was expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after being sent on loan to Sevilla last season, but new United manager Erik ten Hag has been impressed by his pre-season form and now wants him to stay. The arrival of Raheem Sterling also points to an exit for the German winger.
