Serie A giants join race for £80,000-a-week Man United centre-back
Jose Mourinho, the coach of Roma, is eager to reconcile with Manchester United center-back Eric Bailly. The two clubs are now in talks over a possible transfer for the 28-year-old defender, who has two years left on his contract with Manchester United. The Ivory Coast international was Jose Mourinho's first signing at Manchester United, moving from Villarreal.
However, following a solid debut season, the Ivorian center-back has slid down the pecking order, due in part to the entrance of additional defenders and in part to his injury record. The Ivorian has spent the most of his time at Manchester United on the injured list, with his game time suffering as a result. The acquisitions of Maguire and Varane were also harmful to his cause, and now that Lisandro Martinez has joined Manchester United, the African centre-back may struggle to find consistent playing time. The former Villarreal center-back is so free to leave Manchester United this summer, and the club is actively seeking potential suitors. The Giallorossi have emerged as a possible destination for Eric, who has played 113 games for Manchester United. The Portuguese coach's central defensive options now include Roger Ibanez, Gianluca Mancini, Marash Kumbulla, Chris Smalling, and William Bianda, although he is anxious to acquire reinforcements. Jose Mourinho regards Bailly as an ideal upgrade over the players he presently has in the position.
