People cannot pay the e-levy if their SIM cards are deactivated; therefore, the deadline should be extended! - An ex-member tells Ursula Owusu.

Collins Owusu Amankwah, a former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North, has asked Communications Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful to extend the deadline for SIM registration.

The Minister set a July 31, 2022 deadline for all Ghanaians with SIM cards to re-register with their Ghana cards or risk having their cards deactivated.

The deadline is this Sunday, but a large number of Ghanaians are still unable to register for or receive a Ghana card.

Due to technical difficulties, many of those who have received their cards have yet to register their SIM cards.

Collins Owusu Amankwah pleaded with the Minister to pardon those who haven't registered their SIM cards during Friday's "Kokrokoo" morning show on Peace FM.

"Should we deactivate every SIM card that hasn't been registered right now, so that person can't transact business again? Do you know if that person is unable to pay the E-Levy? Telcos will not benefit either. Even if it is only one million subscribers, the cost is enormous... Those who have not yet received their card should be excused, in my opinion "He stated.

He also chastised the National Identification Authority, which is in charge of registering and issuing the Ghana card, for failing to make the cards easily accessible to the masses and ensuring that everyone has registered and obtained one.

"They owe us an apology, whether the cards were printed during President Kufour's tenure or not. They should have distributed those cards to the public before sanctioning the new ones, but they did not. You sometimes make things difficult for us "He continued.

On July 19, the suspects were apprehended after forcibly engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse with the victim. They are charged with conspiracy to commit rape and rape in violation of Sections 23(1) and 97 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960. (ACT 29).

"So today [Thursday], we were in court with the accused persons, and their lawyers also appeared in court seeking bail for them, but that was vehemently opposed." We explained our case to the court, and they were remanded for two weeks as a result. As a result, they will have to appear in court on August 9th. The officer has been arrested as we speak. The police administration will not protect anyone who attempts to tarnish the service. "We are working hard to improve our global image," said the senior officer.
