Rennes set to sign Joe Rodon

Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais are reportedly on the verge of signing Joe Rodon from Tottenham Hotspur on loan this summer. According to Italian football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais are set to secure the services of centre-back Joe Rodon on a loan deal from Tottenham Hotspur. The two teams are yet to agree on terms, but discussions are in the final stage, with a confirmation expected soon. Joe Rodon joined Tottenham Hotspur from Swansea City in a deal around €12 million. But the Welsh defender has failed to cement a starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has made just 24 appearances across all competitions for the north London club and does not feature in Antonio Conte’s plans going forward. While the 24-year-old was already one of the last names on the pecking order, Spurs have also signed Clement Lenglet from Barcelona on loan, which would mean the few chances that Rodon managed over the last couple of seasons will decrease further. Tottenham have been trying to find a potential suitor for the Welsh defender, who still has three years left on his contract with the north London club. Newly-promoted Premier League outfits Fulham and Nottingham Forest were among the clubs showing interest, along with AS Roma. Rennes are set to sign Joe Rodon on loan from Tottenham, deal expected to be completed soon. Been told the deal also includes a buy option worth €20m. ?? #THFC Deal at final stages, first called by @mcgrathmike – while Arthur Theate completed medical tests with Rennes today. pic.twitter.com/ZTBz3QUb87 — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 28, 2022 Widespread reports also claimed that Tottenham were eager to include the 24-year-old Rodon in a potential deal to sign Italian international Nicolo Zaniolo from AS Roma. However, the proposal did not convince the Giallorossi, and Rennes have now emerged as the favourites to secure the Wales international’s signature. The Ligue 1 outfit will sign the defender on an initial loan deal. And as per Fabrizio Romano, Stade Rennais have the option of making the move permanent for a fee of €20 million. Tottenham and Rennes are expected to reach an agreement soon and are finalising the finer details of the transfer. Spurs have sold Dutch attacker Steven Bergwijn this summer and are also looking to offload young defender Japhet Tanganga. On the other hand, Tottenham have signed six players, including Lenglet, with Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster all joining the north London outfit.

£17m Tottenham man may have already played his last game for Spurs as exit nears

According to Fabrizio Romano, Rennes are set to announce the signing of Joe Rodon on a season-long loan from Tottenham. Usually, the Wales international would return to N17 next summer when the temporary deal ends. However, Romano has shared an interesting detail, which means Rodon’s appearance against Rangers on Saturday could turn out to be his final outing for Spurs. What’s the story? Well, Rennes have a purchase option as part of the loan agreement. The Ligue 1 side can sign Rodon for €20m (£17m) in the summer of 2023 should he do well in France, and if a permanent deal does materialise, it will land Daniel Levy a small profit. Spurs paid £11m to sign the 24-year-old from Swansea back in October 2020, although for whatever reason, he wasn’t given many opportunities to shine under José Mourinho. Things didn’t improve under Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte, so Rodon has decided to take a step outside of the United Kingdom to further his career.
