Official: Barcelona’s Oscar Mingueza joins Celta Vigo on a four-year deal

Barcelona are finally focusing on the departure aspect of their summer window, and have sold Oscar Mingueza to Celta Vigo on a four-year deal. The transfer is subject to the medical and the signing of contracts. Reports suggest that the deal is worth a sum south of €5 million, and Barça will even get a percentage of any future sale. The final number remains undisclosed, though. Mingueza is among the only three players in Barcelona history to play at every level – including the senior team – since joining La Masia. He made his debut last season under Ronald Koeman in the Champions League during the 2020/21 season. The 23-year-old also scored two goals through his senior tenure – one against Huesca, and another one against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. While traditionally a centre-back, Mingueza often played as a right-back through the last two seasons, recording several assists in the process. His crossing and long passing were noteworthy each time he stepped on the pitch. However, the signing of Eric Garcia last summer, and Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde this time made his place in the team obscelete. We wish Mingueza the best in his future endeavours.

Mingueza leaves Barcelona for Celta Vigo

Barcelona have confirmed that Oscar Mingueza will join fellow LaLiga outfit Celta Vigo, pending a medical and personal terms. The 23-year-old defender rose into the first-team during Ronald Koeman's spell in charge of Barca, making his debut during a Champions League clash against Dynamo Kyiv. Capped by Spain in 2021, Mingueza featured 66 times for Barca's first-team, registering five assists and scoring two goals – including against Real Madrid. Last season, Mingueza featured in 19 LaLiga matches for Barca, and featured in the Champions League and Europa League, but he saw opportunities decrease in the second half of the season. After the turn of the year, Mingueza started just twice for Xavi's side in the league as Barca's form improved under the guidance of their legendary midfielder. Mingueza is set to join Celta on a four-year deal reportedly worth around €5million. His role in the side would have been difficult to maintain following the club's defensive reshuffle in the current transfer window, which has seen Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen move to the club.

Oscar Mingueza in talks to join Celta Vigo

Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza is reportedly in talks with La Liga club Celta Vigo over a summer move. According to Catalan outlet CCMA, centre-back Oscar Mingueza could be one of the first players leaving Barcelona in the ongoing summer transfer window. The Blaugrana have no option but to offload a few players to be able to register new signings, and Mingueza could thus be on his way out of Camp Nou. A Barcelona youth product, the 23-year-old central defender rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut in the 2020/21 season, with the club short on options in the defensive department.
