Three Man City Players To Blame As Liverpool Wins The 2022 Community Shield Against The Citizens
Manchester City has now lost the Community Shield final for the second year in a row, against Leicester City and Liverpool in 2021 and 2022, respectively, with the most recent loss coming with a 3-1 scoreline against a better structured Liverpool team.
Perhaps the only positive that Manchester City fans will take away from today's encounter at the Kings Power Stadium is that one of their new signings, Julian lvarez, managed to score. Today's goal should be the first of many for him.Pep Guardiola, on the other hand, committed a few tactical errors in his approach to the squad that narrowly beat him to the Premier League title by one point last season, but a few individuals also contributed to the defeat.
For the record, guys like Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden played well against Liverpool today, but their teammates clearly let them down.
This loss will definitely have an impact on the team's morale heading into the 2022/2023 Premier League season, but as the Premier League defending champions, they will have to pick themselves up and recover if they are to regain the crown.
Apart from Pep Guardiola's tactical blunders and errors, here are three players that performed poorly and are to blame for Manchester City's defeat. The 22-year-old was a shadow of himself today, with only 16 touches in 90 minutes (8 in each half) and being dispossessed of the ball numerous times, not to mention the numerous sitters he missed.
The truth is that Manchester City are not yet accustomed to playing with a traditional number 9, and it may take some time for them to adjust to the formation and tactics.Erling Haaland, on the other hand, was the primary reason Manchester City lost the Community Shield to Liverpool due to his awful finishing.
2. Jack Grealish
While many may disagree, Jack Grealish was another player to blame today. His lack of creativity on the left flank forward hampered Manchester City's defense and provided the opposition enough freedom to operate on that wing. At this point, the Englishman is only good enough to win fouls for the squad.
3. Ederson Moraes
Ederson Moraes had a mess of a performance against Liverpool today, topping it off by allowing a penalty in the second half, which further sunk his already sinking ship.Liverpool won thanks to their inability to come out and claim crosses and basic carelessness.
Finally, unless Pep Guardiola sits down and fine-tunes his tactics and system, the Citizens may be stripped of the Premier League championship at the end of the 2022/2023 season.
