Barcelona agree €45m deal to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich

Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski for €45million, rising to €50million in potential add-ons, ahead of a medical in Miami. The 33-year-old striker is set to sign a four-year contract with the Spanish club. Lewandowski is expected to fly on Sunday to join Barcelona’s US tour and undergo a medical in Miami. The rest of Barcelona’s squad are due to depart on tour a day earlier. Barcelona have long intended to recruit and register Lewandowski as a priority, if Bayern decided to sell the striker. Lewandowski, 33, has been at the centre of a transfer saga since he said he would not renew his Bayern contract in May and expressed a desire to leave. The Athletic reported last Wednesday that personal terms had already been agreed, with Barcelona tabling a €40 million offer for the Poland international. Barcelona president Joan Laporta said last week the club were still waiting for a response from Bayern to their offer for Lewandowski. The Catalan club’s summer has been hamstrung by their financial constraints and need to balance the books before the end of June. Despite having deals agreed well in advance, they only announced the signings of Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie on free transfers from Chelsea and AC Milan in the past few days. They came after Barcelona announced the first of their economic “levers” — selling 10 per cent of their TV rights for the next 25 years for €267 million to US firm Sixth Street. On Friday they announced the signing of Raphinha from Leeds United while they want to sell Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United to help them register their new signings. Lewandowski, meanwhile, has scored 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern, including 98 over the past two seasons. In May, he said: “My story with Bayern has come to an end, I cannot imagine further good cooperation. “I hope they will not stop me (from leaving) just because they can. A transfer is the best solution for everyone.” (Photo: Getty Images) GO DEEPER Bayern Munich: A summer of corrections GO DEEPER Bonuses, pressure and a possible transfer - explaining Frenkie De Jong's Barcelona future

Barcelona Set to Sign Striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich

Barcelona is set to sign Poland striker Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in a bold move by the debt-ridden club to acquire a world-class scorer who can finally help to fill the void left by Lionel Messi’s exit. The European clubs have reached an agreement in principle for Lewandowski's move to Camp Nou. “We have come to a verbal agreement with Barcelona. It’s good to have clarity for all parties," Bayern president Herbert Hainer said on Saturday on the club's Twitter account. "Robert is an incredible player and he won everything with us. We are incredibly grateful to him.” Barcelona said the agreement is pending a medical exam and final signing. Spanish media reports that the transfer would cost Barcelona some 50 million euros ($50.4 million). The 33-year-old Lewandowski, one of soccer’s most prolific scorers of the past decade, would greatly boost Barcelona’s chances of rebuilding a competitive team after winning nothing last season following the departure of Messi, its all-time top scorer.
