Following a conference in London, the United Kingdom (UK) and Ghana will work harder and more quickly to tackle terrorism, organised migration crime, drug trafficking, and other global challenges.

The second UK-Ghana security discussion was held between July 25 and 27, according to a statement from the British High Commission in Accra, which was forwarded to the Ghana News Agency. The event was to examine the two nations' common interests in addressing global concerns.

The UK Home Secretary, Priti Patel, and Ghana's Minister for National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, reached an agreement to improve cooperation between law enforcement agencies, engage in border security efforts more actively, collaborate to improve cyber security in Ghana, and support regional solutions to instability in Ghana's neighbouring states.

The UK and Ghana have a strong and long-standing connection, and we are strong friends when battling the problem of organised criminal gangs that operate outside of our borders, according to Madam Patel.

"Ghana is the shining example of democracy and freedom in West Africa, and through our combined efforts, we are combating threats to both our personal and collective security."

Since the UK is Ghana's principal and trustworthy partner, Mr. Kan-Dapaah stated, "We applaud the UK's critical security actions towards improving Ghana's resilience to meet national and regional challenges."

"The Home Secretary visited Ghana in the first round of negotiations last year and opened a new immigration taskforce office financed by the Home Office in the process." The collaborative effort, according to the announcement, had disrupted 14 organised criminal organisations since January 2022, preventing the facilitation of 56 people entering the UK unlawfully and saving the UK over £812,000 in the process.

Through the New Plan for Immigration, it was said that the UK Government was collaborating with nations all over the world to combat the abhorrent people traffickers who operate across national lines and exploit vulnerable individuals.

According to the report, on July 25, the Home Secretary hosted a reception at Lancaster House for the Ghanaian delegation before the two-day conference's counterparts discussed serious and organised crime, border management, security, combating terrorism and violent extremism, conflict prevention, and military issues.

It was mentioned that the Defence staff had a meeting to talk about maritime security, regional stability, peacekeeping, and counterterrorism.

"The UK is committed to expanding defence cooperation with the Ghanaian Armed Forces and we will continue to work together in frameworks like the Accra Initiative to counter violent attacks and insurgency in West Africa and the Sahel," said Mr. James Heappey, the UK's Minister of State for the Armed Forces.
