Okada rider and barber are sentenced to prison by a court.

A Hohoe Circuit Court sentenced a 25-year-old okada rider, Gokah Bless Yayra, and a 23-year-old barber, Evans Amegavi, to five years in prison.

When they first appeared in court on February 2, this year, the two pleaded not guilty to stealing, unlawful entry, causing damage, and dishonestly receiving.

After the full trial, the Court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey found them guilty and sentenced them accordingly.

Gokah, on the other hand, was found not guilty of dishonestly receiving.

The Court stated that the sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to others.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Charles Aziati, informed the Court that the complainant was a Reverend Father at the Anfoega Catholic Hospital.

He stated that when a nephew of the complainant visited the facility, he noticed that the burglar-proof had been tampered with.

He claimed that items belonging to the complainant were stolen, including a Samsung 52-inch television worth GH4,500 and an Amcon 43-inch television worth GH1,600.

Other items stolen, according to Chief Inspector Aziati, included six cassocks valued at GH1,620 and some assorted drinks, including Black Label Whisky, valued at GH723.4, for a total of GH13,002.00.

He stated that on February 5, this year, Police received information that Gokah was spotted with some items, including two plasma television sets and other items, in Adabraka, a Hohoe suburb, prompting the Police to arrest him and the accomplice.

When Chief Inspector Aziati questioned Gokah about where he got the items, he told police that Amegavi brought them to him and collected one kilogram of Indian hemp and GH300, but Amegavi denied the allegation.

According to Chief Inspector Aziati, a search in Gokah's room resulted in the discovery of some of the stolen items, which were then recovered.

According to Chief Inspector Aziati, witnesses in the case returned some of the stolen items, which Gokah and his accomplice deposited with them, and the Police arraigned the two after further investigation.
