PROF TAKYIWAA MANUH JOINS CDD-GHANA AS A SENIOR FELLOW

Prof. Takyiwaa Manuh has been designated a Senior Fellow by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), starting as of today, August 1. At the University of Ghana, Professor Manuh teaches African studies as an emerita professor.

 

She previously held the positions of Director at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa's Social Development Policy Division in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, and Professor of African Studies at the University of Ghana, where between 2002 and 2009 she also served as the Institute of African Studies' Director.

 

Professor Manuh attended Wesley Girls' High School in Cape Coast and has degrees in law from the University of Ghana in Legon and the University of Dar es Salaam. Tanzania, as well as an anthropology PhD from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, the United States. Her areas of interest in study include modern African migrations, women's rights and empowerment, and African higher education institutions.

 

She has also written extensively in such fields, including Globalization and Care: Changes in the Cultures of Survival and Care in Ghana (2002-), Gender and Women's Rights and Empowerment in Ghana and Africa, and others.

 

Higher Education in Ghana and Africa (2002–2017), Contemporary Ghanaian Migrations, and 2011 (2000-2014).

 

 

Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Manuh has won numerous honours and awards, including the University of Ghana's Meritorious Service Award in 2007, Ghana's Order of the Volta (Officer Class) in 2008, and an honorary doctorate from the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom in 2015.

Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh, the executive director of CDD-Ghana, praised Professor Manuh for her continuing readiness to apply her broad expertise and via her new position at CDDGhana, experience at the service of Ghana and Ghanaian civic society.

He stated, "Having her now as a senior colleague and part of our team affords us the rare luxury of benefiting on a more or less daily basis from her acute intellect and broad expertise as well as her contagious enthusiasm, civic spirit, and devotion.
