Reverend Owusu Bempah of the National Cathedral admits that he sometimes lies to defend President Akufo-Addo.
Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, the leader of the Glorious Word Ministries, has admitted to spreading lies in order to defend the administration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Reverend Owusu Bempah told Okay FM that he has had to make up false statements in order to keep the government from becoming unpopular.
Reverend Owusu Bempah, citing one of the instances where he 'lied' to save the government, stated that in the case of the National Cathedral, despite not being a member of the National Cathedral's board, he has told some falsehoods to defend the government.
Reverend Owusu Bempah claims that as a result of his public statements about the project, he has been the target of persistent attacks from unknown faces.
He stated that he was never consulted about the National Cathedral project and that if he is invited now, he will decline.
"People just call and insult me about the Cathedral while I'm not a part of it." A number can call and tell me I'm stupid, but I have no idea what they're talking about. You sometimes call me about the Cathedral, and I lie to defend them, but I'm not a part of it. I was standing up for them. "If they invite me [to the presidency], I will accept it, but I cannot go unless they invite me," he said.
The preacher, who was once close to the presidency, also claimed that he has been abused by some members of the public because of his relationship with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The National Cathedral, which President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described as a "priority among priorities," has been embroiled in controversy following allegations made by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Ablakwa recently revealed that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta spent GHC200 million on the National Cathedral while sitting on the opposite side of Parliament.
"In the Mid-Year Review, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta said nothing about his unconstitutional withdrawals of GHS200 million from the Consolidated Fund for the infamous National Cathedral project."
"He also made no effort to address the numerous illegalities and controversies that have dogged the US$400 million project that his boss, President Akufo-Addo, describes as his priority of priorities," Okudzeto Ablakwa said on Facebook.
"How long will the government run away from accountability, and what is the fate of the stalled project after so many structures have been demolished, including a diplomatic property, a modern luxury apartment complex, judges' bungalows, Scholarship Secretariat, Passport Office, Judicial Training Institute, and an IT firm?" the North Tongu MP asked.
