Claim deal to take player to Brentford ‘can be closed’ – Thomas Frank’s side made first offer, club ‘asked for more’

Brentford like Sampdoria star Mikkel Damsgaard and have made a first offer to sign him this summer, according to Sky Italia. The Bees’ initial proposal includes €11m fee plus an additional €7m as potential bonus payments. This proposal from Brentford has not been accepted by the Serie A side. The report adds they have ‘asked for more’ money for the winger, but don’t mention the fee the Italian club are demanding for the 22-year-old. Despite the difference in valuation between the two clubs, the report states the deal ‘can still be closed’. There is a feeling among the parties involved in this operation that an agreement can be reached so that the Denmark international can join Thomas Frank’s side. Brentford have several Danes, Christian Nørgaard, Mads Bech Sørensen, Mads Roerslev and Luka Račić, at the club, including their manager. A move to the Premier League side would see Damsgaard join up with several of his compatriots. The attacker failed to score a goal or register an assist from 12 games in all competitions last season. His appearances for Sampdoria were restricted due to a thigh injury.

Report: PL club now want to sign 'magic' Euro 2020 star who Tottenham nearly signed six months back

According to reports from Gianluca di Marzio in Italy, Brentford are keen on signing Danish midfielder, Mikkel Damsgaard, for around £15m. The impressive Sampdoria midfielder was one of the standout young players in Euro 2020, as he helped Denmark to the semi-finals. Lauded as a ‘magic‘ midfielder for some of his international performances, it is only six months ago that Tottenham declared an interest in signing Damsgaard. However, Di Marzio now claims that it is indeed Brentford who are most likely to sign Damsgaard, with Thomas Frank keen to bring his fellow countryman to the Bees. Damsgaard, 22, suffered an injury hit season last term and managed only 11 appearances in Italy. He did return before the end of the season, though, and is now fit once more. Photo by Lars Ronbog / FrontZoneSport via Getty Images Damsgaard has been monitored by a number of clubs in Europe throughout his time with Sampdoria. Interestingly, though, the Dane only has two goals in his 49 appearances for the club. With those figures in mind, it might be easy to say that’s why Tottenham didn’t pursue their interest. But Brentford are renowned for taking players on and helping them get to their best level. Further, the Bees already signed Christian Eriksen last year, who is more than likely to put in a good word for the club to Damsgaard. This is a player we’ve mentioned in the last few windows so it’s little surprise to see him being mentioned again. Brentford would be pulling off smart business by signing him. Damsgaard has bags of quality and while the stats might not light things up, he is a player who is key for his country. At 22, there is time for him to improve even more and at just £15m or so, you’d have to say it’s a risk worth taking for Brentford really. Have something to tell us about this article?
