Erling Haaland's English football debut didn't go as planned as he struggled through Manchester City's humiliating 3-1 loss to Liverpool in the Community Shield.
The debut of Erling Haaland for Manchester City didn't go as planned.
Following his lackluster performance against Liverpool in the Community Shield on Saturday, Sergio Aguero has suggested that Erling Haaland may need some time to adjust to the Premier League.
The Norwegian is Manchester City's newest shiny object, and considering his scorching goal-scoring record over the last three seasons, it will be assumed that he will get right to work.
Aguero, who scored 259 goals in 388 appearances for City, believes there will be a transition time and says Haaland must get used to facing top-notch defenders every week, something he didn't do in Germany.
On his Twitch account, Aguero remarked, "He was too accustomed to Germany. When [Virgil] Van Dijk arrived and wished Haaland a "welcome to the Premier League," Haaland initially believed he was alone.
Haaland's English football debut didn't go as planned. When he did touch the ball against Jurgen Klopp's team, he fluffed his lines and missed two excellent opportunities, one a sitter with seconds left from a few yards away.
The world will expect the 22-year-old to achieve similar results at City after scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for Dortmund, but a slow start has the ability to dampen anyone's spirits – just ask Romelu Lukaku.
Virgil van Dijk battled Erling Haaland.
According to Sergio Aguero, Erling Haaland will require some time to adjust.
Aguero, who adapted to the Premier League like a duck to water after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011, will be Haaland's greatest inspiration if anything.
The Argentine scored 30 goals in his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, with his title-winning goal against QPR on the final day of the season serving as the season's high point.
If Haaland doesn't get his act together soon, he'll have to forget about Aguero's achievements as City's greatest striker ever and the club's all-time leading goal scorer, which he left nine years later.
