Ghanaian-born Alphonso Davies has pledged to donate all his earnings from the 2022 FIFA World Cup to charity in Canada.
Davies and his family left Ghana when he was just five after his mum and dad had earlier fled the civil war in Liberia.
To repay Canada for welcoming his family, Davies has promised to give all his earnings to charity.
"Canada welcomed me and my family & gave us the opportunity for a better life. It enabled me to live my dreams. It’s a great honour to play for Canada and I want to give back, so I’ve decided that I will donate this years World Cup earnings to charity," he posted on Twitter .
Alphonso Davies, who plays for the Canadian national team, played a key role as the North Americans secured World Cup qualification for the first time in 36 years.
Canada have been drawn in Group F at the 2022 World Cup alongside Belgium, Croatia and Morocco.
