Injury blow for Liverpool before Jurgen Klopp's update, despite star returning to training
Liverpool resumed practice on Thursday in preparation for this weekend's away Premier League match against Fulham.
In order to continue their preparations for their away Premier League opener against Fulham, Liverpool returned to practice on Thursday.
Jurgen Klopp's team was in good spirits at the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby with the start of the new season firmly in their sights. The Reds kick off their season on Saturday at noon kickoff at Craven Cottage.
At his pre-game press conference on Friday morning, Klopp will provide an injury update as he has concerns about a number of his players ahead of Liverpool's journey to the capital. But even though a number of players remained absent on Thursday, the Reds did welcome one star back to training.
Since the Reds' first preseason match against Manchester United, Alisson Becker hasn't played for the team due to an abdominal injury. The Brazilian would return in time to retake his position for the trip to Fulham, Klopp had already said.
In fact, the shot-stopper was back in action on Thursday when he was spotted working out with Adrian, indicating that he is still on track to play against Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, Thiago Alcantara participated in Liverpool's most recent practice amid rumors that he had sustained an injury in training.
Octet missing
On Thursday, the Reds were still missing a handful of players even though Alisson had returned to training. Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had already been ruled out of Saturday's Premier League game opener, while reports on Thursday claimed Curtis Jones would also be sidelined with a calf injury against the Cottagers.
The foursome was missing as a result, but they weren't the only players that were missing. After suffering a knock against Strasbourg on Sunday, Ibrahima Konate was also absent from the picture, and Calvin Ramsay and Kostas Tsimikas were still absent. Naby Keita, however, stayed out of the action after becoming ill over the weekend.
Children involved
The preseason tryout of some Liverpool's young players to catch Klopp's attention is about to come to an end as the start of the Premier League season approaches. However, Stefan Bajcetic appears to have performed well enough to maintain his position with the seniors when the 17-year-old was again engaged on Thursday.
He put on a strong preseason performance and will likely play primarily for the Under-21s this year, although his ongoing participation with the first team reiterates how highly he is rated by club bosses.
Meanwhile, despite speculation about his future, Sepp van den Berg also trained with the Dutchman perhaps on standby to cover any potential Konate absence if needed.
