The top four predictions made by BBC Sport's analysts for the Premier League in 2022–23

current champions This season, Manchester City is attempting to win three championships.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, has won a total of four league titles in six seasons at City. He has already accomplished the feat in Spain (Barcelona, 2008–11) and Germany (Bayern Munich, 2013–16).

Will other teams challenge this time? Last time, Liverpool was City's closest rival, coming in only one point behind.

Erik ten Hag has begun a new era at Manchester United, but after placing sixth last season, can they even make it back to the top four, let alone mount a real title challenge for the first time since they were in the last champions in 2013?

Will Chelsea be a title contender in 2021–2022 despite a difficult period off the field? Can Tottenham improve upon finishing in fourth place? Arsenal might be able to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2016 if they do so. Or will there be any other participants?

22 BBC TV and radio commentators were asked to choose their top four, and to provide justifications for those choices.

These forecasts were based on how each team stood on Thursday, August 4, more than three weeks before the end of August, when the transfer window will close.

This will be a season unlike any other, according to the winter World Cup.

After 16 rounds of matches, the Premier League will take a break in preparation for the World Cup, which will begin in Qatar on November 21. On December 18, the World Cup final will be played, and on December 26, the domestic season will resume.

Martin Keown predicts that this season will be unlike any other. Literally, it is split in half.

Jenas, Jermaine This season, a strong start may be more crucial than ever because we are unsure of how the World Cup will effect both the players who participate and those who do not.

Mr. Stephen Warnock This year's title race is more difficult to predict than ever before. Imagine being in first place and on top of the world at the beginning of November. Normally, this would be the beginning of your title defense, but this time, you might see your players get hurt or lose their form in Qatar, and by the time the season resumes, you won't have any momentum left.

Onuoha, Nedum You want your players to remain alert without being overly worn out. In an effort to give their players two or three weeks to prepare for the remainder of the season, I assume most club managers would prefer for their players to return after the group stage.

Mr. Glenn Murray Could it twice harm City? They occasionally begin slowly in August, Therefore, it might repeat itself in December of current year. But I can't see it. Everyone, especially the elite teams, is aware that this hiatus is taking place and will be prepared for it.

Alyssa Williams In the fight for the championship, who handles it the best will play a significant role, but the top two go into such great detail about everything and they typically do it right.
