Rev. Steve Wengam succeeds Rev. Frimpong-Manso as General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church.
Rev Dr Stephen Yenusom Wengam, Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Chapel, an Assemblies of God Church branch in Accra, has been elected General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Ghana.
Rev. Wengam was elevated during the church's 30th biennial General Council Meeting, which was held at the University of Cape Coast and was attended by over three thousand delegates.
Rev Professor Yaw Frimpong-Manso, who has been General Superintendent for the past 12 years, is succeeded by the 50-year-old pastor.
In his victory speech, Rev Dr Wengam stated that he needs to "unite the Assemblies of God, Ghana for true spiritual revival and greatness."
He also promised "visionary and progressive leadership of integrity, shift, speed, open heavens, and Great Commission fulfillment."
Rev Dr Wengam recalled how the church [Assemblies of God] was once Ghana's leading Pentecostal church. It was the first to establish a Bible School, a Radio Ministry, and to use social action to win souls and transform communities. It was also the first Assemblies of God church in the world to produce a President and a Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana.
"We will regain our position as the leading Pentecostal Church," Rev Wengam declared. Our church is destined for greatness, and greatness is our lot. Remember that we are descendants of the Azusa Street Revival."
Rev Dr Wengam described his path to the church's highest office as "rough and tough as I endured odds, resistance, false accusations, and misrepresentations."
He thanked God for calling him to that position, saying, "It's a victory for the ordinary local pastor who may never become District Pastor, Regional Superintendent, or Executive Presbytery Member, but who now has hope that indeed God still raises Davids from obscurity to prominence." The moral of the story is that we should not prioritize the law over grace."

The Federal High Court in Lagos State, Nigeria, sentenced 20 Ghanaian fishermen to one year in prison each on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
The men were sentenced to prison for transporting 13.670 kilograms of marijuana, also known as cannabis, from Ghana to Nigeria.
According to Nigeria's Punch, the court found them guilty of conspiracy and illegal drug transportation.
Francis Teye, Kweke Komel, Gad Adjah, Theophilus Tetteh, Kwesi Aboagye, Ekon Fynn, Kwamena Baah, Kwabina Adjei, Micheal Okutu, Isaac Kofi, Kweku Moko, Kwezi Adzi, and Kweku Mensah are among the convicted fishermen.
Micheal Kofi, Ekon Bentum, Kwesi Amissah, Joshua Huago, Otu Otipeseku, Isaac Yorsson, and Nana Kodwo are among the others.
The above people were arrested on the Nigerian territorial waters on January 14, 2022 with drugs from Ghana.
In court, the prosecutor, Mr Fingere Owen, said their crime was contrary to and punishable under sections 11(b) and 14(b) of the Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The convicts, on the other hand, pleaded guilty while their lawyers begged the court for mercy because they were first-time offenders.
According to their lawyer, the fishermen had no idea what was in their bag until they engaged a customer.
On this basis, Justice Nicholas Oweibo sentenced them to one year in prison. He also ordered that the convicts pay N50,000 in lieu of their sentences and that the boat used to smuggle the prohibited substance be forfeited to the Federal Government.
