Bournemouth close to signing Neto ahead of the 2022/23 season
Bournemouth are set to sign Barcelona’s second-choice goalkeeper Neto in the coming days. The Cherries are keen to add a new player between the sticks as competition for Mark Travers. The club’s second choice goalkeeper, Will Dennis, has a lack of match experience at the top level. As a result, Neto would be able to provide the needed competition to play himself and raise the levels of the other goalkeepers at the club. The 33-year-old is set to complete his medical for the transfer in the next few days to complete the formalities. However, the official statement for the move could be delayed, according to Fabrizio Romano. With experience at Juventus, Valencia and Fiorentina, the goalkeeper has been able to build a steady reputation for himself. But, he was second-choice behind Marc Andre ter Stegen. Barcelona wanted to let him go earlier, but struggled to find suitors. Now, he is finally on his way out as the club try to trim their wage bill. Clement Lenglet, Oscar Mingueza and Trincao have already left the club this summer. And Neto will soon join the list. Bournemouth will have their fourth signing of the summer with the arrival of the Spaniard, as they look to stay up on the top flight.
?Bournemouth won’t pay ‘single euro’ for signing – Player to travel in ‘next few hours’ for Cherries medical
On August 4th, Mundo Deportivo reported Barcelona goalkeeper Neto ‘did not hesitate’ to say yes to AFC Bournemouth. It was also explained the 33-year-old’s agent is still negotiating with the Premier League side and the deal could be completed soon. Sport on Friday has a short update that pushes the player closer to Bournemouth. The Brazilian, who has been left out of Xavi Hernández’s plans, ‘already has a team’ and it is the newly promoted Premier League side. Neto arrived at the Camp Nou from Valencia in 2019 and has less than 12 months left on his current deal. There’s still €6.5m to be amortised from his signing, but the Catalan club will not receive a ‘single euro’ from Scott Parker’s side. That’s because the South American will leave Barca as a free agent and this is how Neto will be able to ‘maintain his current salary’ at Bournemouth. If nothing goes wrong, Neto will travel to England in the ‘next few hours’ to undergo medical tests and sign the contract with the Cherries.
?Barça keeper Neto on his way to Bournemouth
04/08/2022 Upd. at 09:52 CEST The exit operation at Camp Nou is already underway. Mingueza was the first, of the players not included in the sporting project for this new season, to leave the club. He will now be followed by Neto, who also did not travel to the United States tour, as well as Umtiti, Riqui Puig and Braithwaite. As reported by journalist Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Bournemouth for the transfer of Neto, who is now heading to the Premier League. The goalkeeper is expected to travel in the next 24-48 hours to undergo a medical with his new team. Several teams have been in contact with the Brazilian, but his salary has always been a stumbling block to greenlighting any of the options that appeared. Offers from the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga and even Brazil. In the end, he seems to be convinced by Bournemouth, recently promoted to the first tier of English soccer. Neto, therefore, will no longer wear the Blaugrana shirt after three seasons in which he never really pushed Ter Stegen for the starting spot. 21 games in three years, in which he has conceded 20 goals, keeping a clean sheet on seven occasions. He will be replaced by Ińaki Peńa.
