Is Erik Ten Hag excluding Cristiano Ronaldo from his front three? ...
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start the opening game of Manchester United's new Premier League season on the bench.
For much of the summer, the Portuguese superstar has been attempting to force a departure from the Red Devils. He has yet to find a new club, and United are also unwilling to let him leave Old Trafford just a year into his second spell in Manchester.
His attempts to flee resulted in him missing the team's pre-season tour of Asia and Australia earlier this summer. In fact, his first appearance under new manager Erik ten Hag came only on Sunday, when he was taken off at halftime of their draw Rayo Vallecano.

While Ten Hag has insisted that the move was planned due to Ronaldo's lack of match fitness, it appears that Ronaldo has yet to earn a starting spot against Brighton. The 37-year-old is expected to have a 'humiliating stint' on the bench, according to The Sun.
With his future uncertain and his fitness not up to par with the rest of the squad, Ronaldo will be a substitute against the Seagulls. Ten Hag will instead stick with the front three that has started many of United's preseason games.
That means Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford can all be expected to start against Brighton on Sunday. According to the report, if that trio continues to perform well, Ronaldo may be kept on the bench even after he returns to full fitness.
