CAF SLAMS NAPOLI PRESIDENT, CALLS FOR UEFA SANCTIONS

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has condemned the president of Italian club Napoli's remarks about the African players and the Nations Cup as irresponsible and unacceptable.

Napoli Football Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis stated that he will not sign African players unless the players agree not to compete in the Africa Nations Cup.

The Napoli president confirmed in a televised statements: ‘As long as they do not give up on their rights to participate in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) or in the matches between th Nations Cup and the tournaments in South America, Napoli will not include them at all’.


On the official Confederation Of African Football website, CAF said; ‘We are committed to the role that football plays in the whole world, as it helps unite people of different cultures and races’.

‘’Will the Napoli president put the same conditions on the players coming from South America, Asia and others? How can you prevent the African players of the continent from representing their countries in tournaments that are important for the development and growth of the game?’’ C.A.F added in his statement.

The CAF statement concluded by recalling that the ‘Africa Cup of Nations’ Is the main tournament of the African continent, and one of the leading tournaments in the world of football, and during the last edition, the tournament was shown in more than hundred and sixty countries (160) and attracted more than 600 million viewers.
