As they fight to retain the well-liked midfielder, Manchester City refuted rumours that they had accepted a proposal from Barcelona to transfer Bernardo Silva.

The La Liga powerhouses are interested in signing the 28-year-old for a second summer in a row, but their pursuit has drawn criticism due to their financial difficulties.

Silva had previously disclosed to City that he was considering moving to Spain in order to be closer to his family in Portugal.

Manchester City have dismissed claims that they have accepted a bid for Bernardo Silva

Claims that Manchester City accepted a proposal for Bernardo Silva have been denied.

There are only three weeks remaining in the transfer window, so City would need to find a replacement even though Pep Guardiola has officially declared that the Premier League champions will not prevent unsatisfied players from leaving the Etihad Stadium.

According to reports yesterday coming out of Barcelona, the two teams had agreed on a cost, which was listed as £46 million.

After an outstanding campaign last year that resulted in his team's fourth title in five years, Silva—whom City do not want to lose this month—would be worth more than £80 million in the present market.

For Sunday's 2-0 victory at West Ham United, Guardiola benched Silva in favor of Ilkay Gundogan after adjusting his strategy.

A transfer to the Nou Camp has seemed doubtful all summer long, as Barca has yet to register their new additions following this week's disputes with league officials.

Prior to Sunday's season-opening match at Rayo Vallecano, club president Joan Laporta is considering selling more of the team's assets in order to sign players like Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde. Frenkie De Jong, who was wanted by both Manchester United and Chelsea, has also not been sold by Barcelona.

Barcelona's pursuit of the player has raised eyebrows with the club currently unable to register various new signings this summer

Given that the team is now unable to recruit a number of new players this summer, Barcelona's pursuit of the player has sparked questions.
