Liverpool star's hamstring injury will keep him out for a few weeks

The 31-year-old Spaniard will undergo a scan this week as he continues his recovery after leaving Liverpool's 2-2 draw at Fulham on Saturday due to a hamstring injury. The Reds now do not anticipate the Spaniard to play for them in August.

Thiago Alcantara, a midfielder for Liverpool, suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's 2-2 tie with Fulham, and he will be out for a few weeks.

Liverpool does not anticipate the Spanish midfielder to play for them again in August after he left the Reds' season-opening match at Craven Cottage with an injury.

However, this week the 31-year-old will have another scan as part of his ongoing injury recovery.

Due to illness and injuries, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were all absent for Liverpool on Saturday.

Despite their expanding injury list, Jurgen Klopp is sure that Liverpool's transfer window is closed and that they would not sign any more midfielders.

After the Fulham draw, Klopp said, "We said we don't need a midfielder because we had enough - and we truly do have enough, but the problem now is we get penalized for something that is really not our fault because things like this can happen."

Nobody could have predicted that Curtis would experience what he does; it is nothing dangerous, but given his age, it is likely a stress reaction. These are how bodies are. Only Naby is sick and he will now be back definitely next week again. Oxlade happened early and now with Thiago that is, of course, not good and we will see.

"Look, a deal must make sense both now and in the long run; we already have enough midfielders. We don't have a shortage of midfielders; rather, a few of them are injured." I don't like this situation at all, but we'll have to see how we respond to it. Panicking is definitely not the way to go."

Carra: Liverpool shouldn't rush to make a purchase.

Jamie Carragher talks about Liverpool's opening-day draw at Fulham, whether they need to enter the transfer market once more, and who might be the other Premier League title contenders.

Jamie Carragher of Sky Sports offers analysis:

"Most people agree that Liverpool's midfield could use some reinforcements right now, perhaps not in terms of personnel  but Possibly in terms of quality and by providing an alternative to what they now have in the midfield. It's just the age profile of some of the midfielders there, who are moving into their 30s; it's not a criticism of the midfield players they currently have. The starting midfield for Liverpool, as well as the one that played for Fulham, is going close to 30 years old. You believe that at some point, a player who is younger and more enthusiastic will be needed; however, all of such players are now injured.
