Kokoben Police Brutalities: Police stole suspect’s GHc5K, gold and phone – Family alleges.

The family of a man who was allegedly brutalized to death by police at Abrafo-Kokoben in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality of the Ashanti Region is demanding GHc5000, a mobile phone, and gold that their relative had in his possession when he voluntarily walked to the police station.

The deceased's family head, Kwadwo Asumang, told the Ultimate Breakfast Show that their relative went to the police after returning from a small-scale mining concession where he worked.

"Our son had 5,000 cedis on him." Before going to the police station, he was showing off a piece of gold to people who claimed they had never seen gold before. According to the police, the money on him was only 3,600 cedis.

"Neither the gold nor the phone he was holding can be found," he raged.

He told the host, Julius Caesar Anadem, that the cops were busy bargaining for a bribe of 300 cedis when they begged for the release of their relative for medical attention.

"The elderly man who led my relatives to ask for Prince's release on bail told me they had to beg the police, who later agreed to take 200 cedis to release him," he revealed.

Background

On Thursday, August 3, Prince voluntarily went to the Abraf-Kokoben police station to demand the release of some items he was using to build a workshop container.

According to MyNewsGh.com, the police confiscated the building materials on the orders of a Tabre sub-chief who reported the deceased for erecting the container without their permission.

The police are said to have had heated exchanges with him after he resisted arrest because he had not committed any offense that warranted being locked up.

Eyewitnesses who saw the police chasing the deceased and yelling thief claim they witnessed the men in uniform beat and kicked Prince with their firearms and boots till he was bleeding.

Legal Action

The family has indicated that it will file a class action lawsuit against the police and the chief who ordered Prince's arrest and alleged brutalization to death.

Kwadwo Asumang, the family's head, told MyNewsGh.com "We only want justice." We're talking to our lawyers right now. We will sue the police and the chief because without the chief, the police would not have known about Prince."

Meanwhile, checks at the location of the metal container at the heart of the whole saga revealed little cause for concern about obstruction or congestion.
