Mikel Arteta has warned that he is in "big trouble" following Arsenal chief Edu's non-negotiable reminder

The Spaniard has received substantial financial support from those in the Arsenal hierarchy above him, and it is now up to him to lead the club back into European football's elite.

Mikel Arteta has been told he could be fired if Arsenal fails to finish in the top four this season, following a second summer of heavy spending.

The Gunners have surpassed the £100 million mark yet again, thanks in large part to the signings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City. With that kind of money at stake, expectations are bound to rise, and a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace in their Premier League debut has done just that.

Many people believe Arsenal will qualify for the Champions League next season.

If they fail in that quest, Arteta will no doubt face serious questions and possibly criticism, according to former club captain William Gallas, who has high hopes for his old team this season.

The Frenchman explained to Genting Casino: "Of course, if they don't finish in the top four, he'll be in big trouble. Arteta has been asked to finish in the top four, which he did not do last season. There will be a lot of drama if Arsenal does not play in the Champions League next season." They must have a fantastic season, possibly winning the Premier League and qualifying for the Champions League. They recently purchased new players.

"It will be a big problem for all of them if they don't do their job to qualify in the Champions League."

Arteta understands that his project must bear fruit in the form of a return to the top table of European football. Failure to do so this season would be a violation of technical director Edu's five-year plan.

The Arsenal manager recently revealed his long-term goals for the club, citing this season as critical. Edu talked about his relationship with Arteta and where he wants Arsenal to be in the future.
