Frenkie de Jong's girlfriend appears to have hinted at a transfer via Instagram
Mikky Kiemeney, Frenkie de Jong's girlfriend, appears to have dropped a hint about the Barcelona midfielder's future amid speculation that he is growing dissatisfied in Spain.
Mikky captioned a video of the couple wakesurfing in De Jong's car, "Meanwhile... living our best life," implying that the Dutchman is content despite his current situation. She captioned the video, "Found another gem in Catalunya."
Despite interest from Manchester United and, more recently, Chelsea, De Jong has made it clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona. However, the Catalan club is actively looking to get their highest earner off the payroll, and are reportedly considering legal action over the midfielder's contract after he rejected their request for him to take a pay cut.
De Jong is owed €17 million in amortizations and back payments related to the renewed contract he signed with Barcelona in October 2020, just weeks before his resignation, under former president Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Gerard Pique accepted a salary cut with Barcelona this week, while Sergio Busquets' contract is being restructured. According to AS, De Jong's refusal to accept Barcelona's wage-cut demands has caused tension in the dressing room.
As a result of the ongoing dispute, De Jong was recently insulted by a group of Barcelona fans outside the club's training facilities on Wednesday.
