A former Liverpool player who played in the ongoing Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United transfer crisis looks to be miffed that his old team isn't in the running to sign the Netherlands international.

Due to the financial difficulties of the Camp Nou club, De Jong has been widely linked with a move from Barcelona to Manchester United.

The former Ajax midfielder had previously been connected to Liverpool, but earlier this summer, it was said that the Red Devils were prepared to offer him £395,000 per week to join them at Old Trafford.

Although the Reds are a much better team than the ones playing at the Theatre of Dreams, United is still a massive football club that is capable of making outrageously expensive deals, according to The Telegraph, who reported that a £63 million cost had been negotiated.

Additionally, Jose Enrique, a former left-back for Liverpool, is displeased on Instagram about Jurgen Klopp and FSG's inability to sometimes compete with England's top players off the field.

Enrique suggested that De Jong's decision to leave Spain was sparked by Bernardo Silva's prospective transfer to Barcelona.

He shared the following on social media:

The Spaniard may be on to something.

Since Liverpool does require a midfielder of De Jong's caliber, Klopp is currently being questioned about adding one on a biweekly basis.

Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Thiago are all injured, leaving the Reds shorthanded in this area.

However, despite earlier in the window's rumors about De Jong, Liverpool already broke their transfer record this summer with the £85 million purchase of Darwin Nunez. Honestly, another sizable financial investment was never really on the table.
