Longest serving General Secretary of the largest opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito has reacted to rumors flying around on social media about his Chairmanship ambition.
Reports on various social media platforms suggest that the 5-term General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress will be contesting for the National Chairman position should the party open nominations. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Peter Boamah Otukonor and Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey have hinted replacing the Chief Scribe should he constests the national Chairmanship position.
Reacting to the rumors on UTV, the former Member of Parliament and current General Secretary of the NDC disclosed that the focus of the party is to reorganize, elect branch, ward, constituency and regional officers to build a formidable force and not his future ambitions
"Our focus is on the branch reorganization and election of officers which have been successful in the Savannah, Upper East, North East, Norhern, Upper West, Central, Western, Western North, Bono, Ahafo, Bono East, Volta, Oti and Greater Accra. We are left with the Ashanti and Eastern Regions which will be done in the coming weeks".
" I have received several calls to contest for Chairmanship or General Secretary position but we have to focus on having a formidable branch for the 2024 elections. By December, we should be able to finish the elections of officers at all levels, he notied.
Whilst the New Patriotic Party is done with it's election of officers, the opposition National Democratic Congress has just commenced the process at the branch levels.
The NDC's timetable for the next election is to be able to elect it's flagbearer by the first quarter of year 2023.
It is not yet confirmed who will be contesting for what national office in the NDC but names like Brogya Genfi, Joseph Yammin, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Peter Boamah Otukonor, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, Magaret Magoo have sprung up as possible contestants of the National youth organizer, organizer, Secretary and women's organizer positions.
