Money is something generally accepted as a medium of exchange, a measure of value, or a means of payment. Money is an important element in the life of humanity that those who have are happy and those without it sad. Money plays a critical role in every in every country in every part of the world. It is in this regard that every country have their own unique currency or money for their business transactions. The major international currencies are the British pounds sterling £, the Euro € and the United States of American dollar $.
Money has been glorified to the extent that if you dont have money you are relegated to the background of society. We canonize and deify people who have money in society without taking into consideration how they acquire their money. Money is a double edged sword. It can be good and bad at the same time.
In view of this, the bible admonishes us about money and an insatiable desire to acquire it. For instance, Ecclesiastes 10:19 says
"A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things". This means money is good and those who have it can obtain a lot of things from it.
However, 1 Timothy 6:10 says
"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows". This means the desire to acquire money at all cost can lead you to do evil things.
Whereas some people genuinely work hard to acquire their money through investment, entrepreneurship and their job, others use underhand means to acquire money through kickbacks from corrupt deals. Others make money through prostitution, sports betting etc.
In a nutshell, money in itself is not bad but how it is acquired. People should not be glorified in society because of their money but by their virtue and character. How people acquire their money should be checked through legislation by the government.
