Manchester United have confirmed they have no plans to terminate Cristiano Ronaldo's contract and are sticking to their guns for their missing striker.
The 37-year-old has been pushing for a move away from Old Trafford all summer as he wants to play Champions League football and the Red Devils have been unable to offer him this season.
Given the start to the season they have had, it looks like they won't be able to offer it again next season after back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford.
Ronaldo looked frustrated during and after Saturday's 4-0 defeat by the Bees and United is reportedly considering terminating his contract and allowing him to leave because of his attitude.
The Portugal legend has one year left on his current contract at the Red Devils but wants to leave the club 12 months early.
However, the club confirmed through a spokesman that they had no intention of terminating Ronaldo's contract, saying: "There has been no change in the club's position."
United's shock starts to the season and the uncertainty surrounding Ronaldo has not helped, although manager Erik ten Hag insists he is planning the upcoming season with his star striker and is not so sure he even wants to leave.
Asked how it feels to manage a player like Ronaldo, who is looking to leave the club on Friday ahead of a trip to Brentford on Saturday, Ten Hag said: "That's your assumption [that Ronaldo wants to leave].
"He didn't tell me that. So I look after the players we have and we plan with him for the season and we need to put him in the squad so he has the right level of fitness so he can do the job we want him to do."
Cristiano Ronaldo is trying his possible best to make a move away from Manchester United to any team that will offer him Champions league football.
