Klopp has a 'definite feeling' that he will make an offer' for the £51 million star at Anfield

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Liverpool could still'make an offer' for Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes, despite initial reports that a move to Anfield was unlikely.

The Reds have already smashed their record outlay after visiting Portugal this summer, with Darwin Nunez joining from Benfica for £85 million, and it appears that manager Jurgen Klopp may return to Lisbon to seal another deal.

What is the most recent Nunes news?

Liverpool are preparing a £42 million bid for Nunes, according to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha, via the Express.

According to MailOnline, the Merseyside giants have dropped out of the race to sign the midfielder, who has a £51 million release clause in his Sporting contract.

Liverpool are not the only Premier League club to have expressed interest in Nunes in recent months, with West Ham United having a £25 million bid rejected and Chelsea also expressing an interest.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been interested in the 23-year-old since the transfer window reopened.

However, a move to Molineux 'doesn't appeal' to Nunes, potentially leaving the door open for Liverpool to pounce.

What did Dean Jones have to say about Nunes?

Jones understands that there is hope in Portugal that Liverpool will eventually try to put Sporting's resolve to the test by negotiating for Nunes.

According to a transfer insider, the Reds have conducted extensive research on the former Estoril man, and their archrivals are also interested.

"There's definitely some feeling around Portugal that Liverpool might make an offer," Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

Liverpool has had scouting reports on him, and Manchester United has also been linked, but neither has moved forward at the moment."

Liverpool are looking to close the gap on Manchester City after narrowly losing the Premier League title last season, and Nunes has already received praise from the reigning champions' manager.

Last season, Pep Guardiola called the Sporting star "one of the best players in the world," emphasizing his talent.

Klopp has insisted that he will only sign 'the right player' after midfielder Thiago Alcantara suffered a serious hamstring injury in the opening day draw at Fulham, but Nunes could be a wise investment.

Despite being in his early stages of his career, Nunes has already earned eight caps for Portugal and has made over 100 appearances for his current club.
