Man Utd's scheme to sabotage Chelsea's acquisition of former captain of Arsenal Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
According to rumours, Manchester United is attempting to sabotage Chelsea's signing of Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
With Barcelona hoping to get Marcos Alonso from Chelsea in a part-exchange deal, Thomas Tuchel's team is in negotiations with the Catalan club on a prospective trade.
Barcelona is seeking to pay between €25m (£21m) and €28m (£23m) for the 33-year-old international from Gabon.
According to The Sun, United is currently competing with Chelsea to sign Aubameyang, but they face a "huge challenge" in persuading him to move to Old Trafford.
After suffering their first Premier League defeat in 30 years, Erik ten Hag's team now finds itself at the bottom of the standings for the first time in 30 years after losing their first two games of the season and are desperate for a new striker, amid lingering concerns on Cristiano Ronaldo's future.
Following his contentious departure from Arsenal, where his contract was terminated after a dispute with manager Mikel Arteta over disciplinary issues, Aubameyang only signed with Barcelona in January.
The second half of last season, when the former Gunners captain scored 13 goals in all competitions, helped restore his image, but the future of his Barcelona career has now been cast in doubt.
Less than six months after Aubameyang's move to Camp Nou, Barcelona's precarious financial situation, along with the high-profile addition of Robert Lewandowski, have drastically changed the scenario for the forward.
Barcelona, who is yet to sign new center-back Jules Kounde because of their financial difficulties– are thought to be eager to offload the forward, whose contract clauses have increased his compensation significantly from last season to this one.
Barcelona has a debt of almost £1 billion, yet last summer they were among the largest spenders in Europe, bringing in players like Kounde, Raphinha, and Lewandowski.
Aubameyang is regarded as a crucial player who might help the team financially, while Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay may also depart.
Yeremy Pino, a youngster for Villarreal, is expected to draw a battle with Chelsea and Arsenal for his services. This summer, the 19-year-old has been strongly linked with a transfer to the Premier League and is rumored to have turned down Barcelona. Pino, who observes his agreement with the Estadio de la Ceramica expire in 2027, featured 31 times for Unai Emery's side in La Liga last season, directly contributing towards ten goals. His impressive displays for the Yellow submarine are said to have courted the interest of Liverpool, who are also prepared to test Villarreal's resolve.
