Liam Delap is about to go on loan from Manchester City, but it will be beneficial for him in the near term.

Pep Guardiola said this past weekend that Liam Delap is about to go on loan from Manchester City, and now is the ideal moment to watch how he progresses.

"We loaned Macca (McAtee), and Liam is in that process since we have Erling and Julian and he needs minutes," the Catalan manager told reporters. For Delap, the EDS procedure is complete. He needs to make an effort to go there and play with the other kids. We'll have Luke Mbete, Rico, and Josh here tomorrow [Sunday] will train with us every day and play for the second team.

It was never going to be easy for the England Under-21 international to play any first-team minutes this year. Erling Haaland's £51 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund and Julian Alvarez's arrival have finally made City's striker pool well-stocked.

Every fan believed that past season was Delap's opportunity to make a breakthrough. The 19-year-old was viewed as the next player to leave the City Football Academy's conveyor-belt because he was injured and lacking a striker. But to his great dismay, Delap suffered an injury and saw very little action with the first squad.

There were rumors of a possible loan in January to get more playing time, but once again, a club wouldn't want to take a chance on him given his injury history. It's time for Delap to see what senior football has to offer, according to Guardiola, who claims that he closed the season playing a small part with the EDS.

It is anticipated that a Championship team would sign him, and he will join players like James McAtee, Tommy Doyle, and Taylor Harwood-Bellis in their quest to impress Guardiola.

Delap faces a very difficult task because the club has signed two 22-year-old strikers this summer, but all he can do is score goals on a regular basis to show Guardiola that he has what it takes to compete against the best, much like players like Cole Palmer, Luke Mbete, and Josh Wilson-Esbrand did.

The trio of Mbete, Wilson-Esbrand, and Rico Lewis—who made his senior debut on Saturday—will remain on the first-team roster this year, aside from Delap. Guardiola is taking a huge risk, but each player has shown some promise in their few appearances.

That is not to say, by any means, that Delap's adventure at City is complete. He is a player with a deadly shot, as evidenced by his senior debut against Bournemouth in 2020. He grabbed Phil Foden's pass and blasted it into the top left corner, leaving Guardiola speechless.

Although he may not have many options right away, his summertime transfer gives him the ability to secure game time in the long run.
