Only Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Cristian Romero, according to Arsenal veteran Paul Merson, would have made Chelsea's starting XI for their match against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

After a 2-2 draw between Spurs and the Blues, Harry Kane's equalizer in stoppage time ensured that the points were shared. The team led by Antonio Conte started at Stamford Bridge without a single new player, sticking with the starting lineup that defeated Southampton 4-1.

As of right now, Destiny Udogie is the club's seventh acquisition of the summer, although the six acquisitions who came before him—including Djed Spence—were not selected for the starting lineup.

Merson asserted in a post-game article that Tottenham still has a team that isn't as formidable as Chelsea on paper. He continued, saying:

Who else would have made the Chelsea team on Sunday, besides Kane and Son? Hugo Lloris would not be preferred over goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. Romero would join Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly in a back three instead of choosing Spurs' wing-backs over Chelsea's.

Merson continued by criticizing Tottenham's starting midfield of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as well as fullbacks Ryan Sessegnon and Emerson Royal.

However, "Chelsea aren't even going to win the league, so there's no way you'd pick Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur above N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, or Mason Mount"

Only three of Tottenham Hotspur's players are allowed to start for Chelsea, according to Paul Merson.

Merson has significant concerns about what Spurs can do this year. But one thing is made clear by his remarks—namely, how underappreciated Hojbjerg is.

The Dane played well, as he always has since joining from Southampton, aside from his goal to tie the game at 1-1 against the Blues in the 68th minute. He practically never misses a workout and always gives his all when he steps onto the field.

With all due respect, if someone actually chooses Jorginho and Kante over Hojbjerg despite the fact that both of these players are aging and on the decline, they may have been swayed by their past reputations.

More Merson is neither the first nor the last skeptic Spurs will encounter this year, according to Tottenham news. Under Conte, a consistent domestic trophy winner, the squad must put an end to them and realize their full potential.
