Liverpool received a double injury boost ahead of the match against Manchester United
In a crucial Premier League matchup, the Red Devils will host their bitter rivals as both teams look for their first victory of the year.
A double injury boost has been given to Liverpool ahead of their trip to Manchester United the following week.
Both teams are trying to shake off their early-season sleep as the Merseysiders make their way to Old Trafford. United, who are currently last in the standings after losses to both Brighton and Brentford, have performed just marginally better than Liverpool, who have drawn poorly against Fulham and Crystal Palace.
The latter result occurred as Jurgen Klopp's team's injury woes grew worse. That was made worse by Darwin Nunez's ejection after receiving a red card, a club record signing, resulting in a three-game ban for him. He will undoubtedly miss the match against Erik ten Hag's team, but Klopp has been given some encouragement by the possibility of having two of his key players available.
What we noticed in practice before the test against Liverpool
Virgil van Dijk, the defensive captain, didn't experience any significant knee pain after Monday's draw with Palace, despite rumors to the contrary. The Dutchman was seen on Thursday engaging in full workout. Photographs from the Reds' practice also included veteran attacker Roberto Firmino, who missed the draw with Patrick Vieira's team owing to an undisclosed injury.
Asked about the Brazilian on Monday, Klopp said, "Bobby was not enough in the end, but will be OK probably from Wednesday onwards." Firmino "could be back [for the next game], we will see."
Liverpool still lacks injured players like Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Diogo Jota despite the aforementioned pair expected to provide Klopp a boost.
After a disastrous start to the Premier League season, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has cautioned his team that rival Manchester United would view Monday night's match as the ideal opportunity to recover some form.
United is in last place after their first two games of the season, which they lost to and for the first time in 30 years they are at the bottom of the table, with the Erik ten Hag era still yet to get out of first gear.
But Liverpool have had a slow start to the campaign themselves after draws against and , and Van Dijk has told his team-mates that they will not be able to take United lightly.
