Timo Werner says he has lost the joy of playing football in the latter part of his Chelsea tenure and says Thomas Tuchel's tactics are partly to blame for his departure from the club. The German joined RB Leipzig earlier this month after a two-year stint in west London.
Werner scored 23 goals in 89 games for the Blues but lost confidence during his second spell at Stamford Bridge and remained on the sidelines under Tuchel.
The Germany international knew his time at the club was over following the arrival of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City and despite Manchester United showing interest in him, Werner opted to return to Leipzig. Werner made a name for himself at Leipzig, scoring 95 goals in 159 games for the German side as a winger.
"For me, having fun playing football is paramount," he told the podcast "Einfach mall Luppen".
"Of course, I had a lot of success at Chelsea, but in the end, the fun was a bit lost because I wasn't playing regularly anymore.
"I don't think the coach's game system really suits me. So it's clear to me that I want to take a new step. I'm at an age where I want to play as much as possible.
“I really attribute a lot of great success to Chelsea – the biggest of my career. It will always be a special club for me. I will also keep in touch with many of the players in the squad.'
Tuchel is looking to step up his attack following Werner's departure as the club seeks a more traditional center-forward.
Romelu Lukaku has been allowed to return to Inter after his disappointing season at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea has held talks with Barcelona over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Catalans are asking around £33m for the former Arsenal captain. Chelsea is still scouting for other players should in case they failed to get the signature of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
