Celebrated firebrand sports broadcaster and host of Adom TV's "Fire for Fire" show, Patrick Osei Agyeman known popularly as Countryman Songo has reacted to the recent declaration by Ghanaian striker, Asamoah Gyan over his interest in playing for Ghana at the World Cup in November this year.
All-time top scorer of the Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan expressed interest in joining the Ghanaian national team for the World biggest football festival slated for November in Qatar this year.
The "LeGyandary" author revealed his trainers and medical staff are still assessing him after a two-year injury break from competitive football, and will give a final verdict after weeks of intensive training if he is fit to join the team for the tournament upon a call up.
A section of the Ghanaian populace are up in arms against the former Black Stars Captain for the declaration. Many are of the view, he should stay back, support and motivate the youngsters to victory because of his age. Others are also of the varied opinion that with the wealth of experience heheomes with, the team could make an impact with him at the tournament.
Countryman Songo in a response to the critics of the legendary Ghanaian footballer boldly says;
: “You people are jokers Asamoah Gyan says he wants to go to the World Cup and you disagree. If you are chasing the likes of Inaki Williams, then Asamoah Gyan can play at the World Cup. I agree with him” he stated
Ghana is still building it's team with it's nationality switch negotiations with foreign born players with Ghanaian backgrounds. Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo have all completed processes and are likely to be called up to the national team. Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Knauff Kinsger are still in the process of switching to play for the Black Stars.
