GHANA FORWARD MAJEED WARIS SNUBS FC NANTES TO JOIN CYPRIOT CLUB ANORTHOSIS FAMAGUSTA

Ghana attacker Abdul Majeed Waris rejected a move back to the French Ligue 1 after sealing a move to the Cypriot League. 

The former Lorient attacker attracted interest from former club FC Nantes in the summer transfer window but he decided to take a new adventure by signing for Anorthorsis Famagusta.

Abdul Majeed Waris has signed a two-year (2) contract with Cypriot First Division club a free transfer after parting ways with French club RB Strasbourg last month.

“Anorthosis Famagusta announces the signing of a contract with Ghanaian footballer Abdul Majeed Waris. The agreement lasts until 2024.

“We welcome the footballer to our beloved team and wish him every success with the "Phoenix" on his chest,” Famagusta announced.


Anorthosis Famagusta believe the former Ghana international can help them achieve their season goals.

The 30 year old could make his debut for Anorthosis on Saturday when they host Pafos in a league match.

Majeed Waris has previously played for Trabzonspor, Fc Porto, CF Valencia, Nantes, Lorient and among other clubs.

Spanish-born Ghanaian and Athletic club forward Nico Williams has made the 60 young players shortlisted for the Golden Boy 2022 award.

The Athletic Bilbao winger makes it into the final 60 candidates after it was pruned down from 100 to compete for the award given by Italian outlet Tuttosport.

The golden boy award sees to recognize the best young talents in the world under 21 years of age.


The 20-year-old had an incredible season with Athletic Bilbao making 34 appearances for the club.

Nico Williams made the shortlist together with these players; Nico González, Balde, Gavi, Ansu Fati, Araujo, Barcelona), Reiner, Camavinga (Real Madrid), 


Musah (Valencia), Ali Cho (Real Sociedad), Nico himself, Yéremi Pino (Villarreal)

The Golden Boy award is designed to recognize the best players under 21 in the European football.

This prestigious award is granted by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport has been considered for some years now as the Ballon d'Or for young players on the international scene.

The number of candidatess will be reduced from then on each month by a total of 20 units until October 15, at which time the decision to crown the ‘Golden Boy will fall on (40) international sports media who will decide between the (20) young soccer players who still remain on the list.
