Bruno Fernandes expresses sadness after Manchester United allowed a transfer target to join rivals.

Bruno Fernandes has expressed his disappointment that Man Utd did not explore a move for Portugal teammate Matheus Nunes, who has joined Wolves.

Bruno Fernandes has expressed his disappointment that Manchester United allowed Matheus Nunes to join Premier League rivals Wolves.

United's signing of Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro on Friday evening marked the end of the club's summer search for a midfielder. Negotiations with Juventus' Adrien Rabiot had previously broken down, and Frenkie de Jong now appears to be staying at Barcelona.

Nunes was Wolves' third season signing, joining defender Nathan Collins and Goncalo Guedes, who arrived from Valencia earlier this month. Sporting CP in Portugal was eager to raise funds despite selling his midfield partner, Joao Palhinha, to Fulham earlier this summer.

Wolves' initial payment of £38 million (rising to £43 million) The talented midfielder becomes Sporting's most expensive signing ever, surpassing the £35 million paid for Fabio Silva two summers ago. The 23-year-old midfielder had been the Midlands club's top priority all summer, and Lage has finally got his man.

A number of Premier League clubs were linked with a spring move for Nunes, with the midfielder's dream location this summer thought to be a Champions League club, before settling on a move to Molineux.

Nunes made his Portugal debut last year and has since appeared seven times for his country, scoring once. He will compete for a place in the Wolves engine room alongside compatriots Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho, as well as Leander Dendoncker.

"I've already talked to him," Fernandes told the Portuguese newspaper Record. I've just now told him he should've come here (to United) instead of there (to Wolves). I'm overjoyed for him.

"He'll be exposed to the best league in the world, and he'll be surrounded by players of exceptional quality, such as Rben (Sa) and Joo (Moutinho), who will teach him a lot." They are both seasoned players.

"Matheus is doing amazing things. He has a lot of room for development, he's a humble, hardworking kid, and I'm sure he'll shine in the Premier League and demonstrate his abilities. Because Matheus was made for the Premier League rather than the Premier League being made for Matheus."
