Jurgen Klopp: If Manchester United game is extended because of protests, Liverpool should receive points

In the event that Liverpool's Premier League match against Manchester United is postponed due to fan unrest, Jurgen Klopp feels Liverpool should receive the points.

After home supporters protested the Glazer family's ownership of the club by marching to Old Trafford, a game between the teams in May 2021 had to be rescheduled.

There are worries that there will be another protest before Monday's game.

"Plans for the game falling through? Yes, taking the bus home "said Klopp.

"I sincerely hope it won't, but if it does, I think we'll win," she said.

We are not involved in the situation, and if the fans want the game to be cancelled, then we cannot just rearrange the game again and fit it in somewhere in an incredibly busy season.

People assure us that we are alright, so we go there, play the game, and then, hopefully, return home. However, in a circumstance like this, the opposite team should always be awarded the points because they had no involvement and were prepared.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, last year's game—the first in Premier League history to be called off due to fan protests—was supposed to be held behind closed doors.

Before 200 individuals stormed into the stadium, hundreds of United supporters had gathered outside the venue in the hours preceding the planned start.

United manager Erik ten Hag responded when asked about the planned demonstrations against the Glazer family: "I can only say the owners want to win - and the supporters, too, we want them behind the club.

We must unite and fight as a team. "I can understand sometimes, but I haven't been in the club long enough to be able to see all the backgrounds."

Since Liverpool and United both started the season with losses, both teams will be looking for their first victory of the year.

When his team faces off against their rivals on Monday, Ten Hag wants to see more "fighting spirit" from his group.

It all begins with you, he continued. "Work as a unit. Work as hard as you can while adhering to the norms and values. You get confidence when you carry out it." As a manager, this week is typical. You have a strategy, a manner, and can envision the game.

"And then you analyse and you see what's wrong and what's good. Now obviously, a lot went wrong [in the 4-0 defeat to Brentford], but what I say is you don't have to talk about anything when the attitude is not right."
