To replace Casemiro, Real Madrid is pursuing a star from Tottenham Hotspur
Given the recent developments, Real Madrid's summer transfer intentions might have undergone a significant change. With Casemiro on his team, Carlo Ancelotti undoubtedly would have begun making plans for the forthcoming campaign. But as the Brazilian is about to sign with Manchester United, it suddenly appears that won't be the case.
According to rumors, Real Madrid and Manchester United have reached an agreement to transfer Casemiro for a fixed cost of €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons.
So, it seems only a matter of time before Casemiro is seen holding a Manchester United jersey. However, that leaves Real Madrid in need of replacing one of their most experienced and reliable stars.
It appears that Los Blancos are after a member of the Tottenham Hotspur team. According to The Telegraph, Real Madrid wants Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to take Casemiro's place.
As Casemiro heads to Manchester United, Real Madrid is interested in a Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.
Hojbjerg previously played for Bayern Munich, but things did not go as well as had been intended. After leaving the Bavarian giants, the Danish international has restarted his career.
He eventually relocated to Southampton, where his outstanding play led to a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Hojbjerg has also continued to get better there, and he is a key player for Antonio Conte's team.
He was successful in scoring an outstanding goal at Tottenham versus Chelsea in recent 2-2 draw away at Stamford Bridge.
He is also still only 27 years old, so he is still very much in his prime. However, Hojbjerg's current contract with Tottenham Hotspur is thought to expire in the summer of 2025. It would therefore be difficult for Real Madrid to sign him.
Real Madrid's Casemiro has joined Manchester United. Even a week ago, few fans would have anticipated hearing that message. But that's how football is, and Los Blancos are suddenly without one of their most seasoned and trustworthy players despite being ready to receive a transfer fee that might reach £70 million with add-ons.
How Real Madrid performs will be interesting to watch how They go about replacing Casemiro this season. It will certainly not be easy.
But intriguingly, Carlo Ancelotti has even said that the team might decide to forgo any signings and rely solely on the six midfielders they currently have.
Real Madrid does have a lot of quality in the middle of the park, but not replacing Casemiro would be a tremendous risk, especially after seeing how many significant additions Barcelona made this summer.
